Audio Artifact: Soundtrack

Original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzQ6gRAEoy0

Notes

  • layer different tracks to create more diverse sounds

  • adjust volume of each track to create different emphasis

  • stick around -12 dB

What did you do?

  • removed the original audio and created a new soundtrack by following the flow of the scenes in the video

  • recorded the keys I pressed on my keyboard, but since it was hard to get the timing right, I mostly had to edit them afterwards by duplicating, extending, shortening, and removing notes.

  • used different instruments to attempt to create a piece with variety.

What tools or skills did it require?

  • GarageBand

  • headphones to properly hear and sync the sounds

  • very basic musical knowledge

What did you learn? How could you adapt it to other projects or contexts?

  • I didn't know it was possible to create so many sounds digitally. I learned that the possibilities are endless, we don't need a band or an orchestra to create complex pieces. When I will shoot my first short film, I'll definitely make a bit of my own soundtrack using an application like this.
