Exhibit 3

Confinement

This is a video collage of different videos I shot of the same building. I designed this as stairs, because stairs are used to bring us to a specific place, either above or below. However in this piece, the stairs do not bring you anywhere. There is no beginning and no ending, but there is up and down. They represent the positives and negatives of life. We might not know where we are going with this pandemic, but it's just part of life, and there are both positive and negative sides to this. I made this a collage of 9 videos because I wanted it to feel slightly overwhelming, as if we don't know where to look at and where to go anymore -- which is something many people have reported feeling during the confinement. I also made 9 of them and in 5 different colors, because different people might have different perspectives about the confinement. For instance, the stairs leading nowhere and always going around in the same place can represent (A) one's confusion, hopelessness in finding a way out, and feeling imprisoned inside this structure; or (B) one's endless creativity and imagination when they are alone at home, unable to do other things outside, therefore learning and exploring new horizons.

I was inspired to make this after watching a scene from an anime I really like. I think the scene was so smooth and captivating, I almost felt absorbed into that world. I wanted to recreate something similar.

I made this with SketchUp and Premiere Pro. It was my first time using SketchUp so I had many difficulties drawing exactly what I wanted, but in the end I came to understand it better and I'm happy I discovered a new tool. I drew the structure and created scenes to export them as a video, then compiled them into a video collage in Premire Pro. I added a no copyright cinematic song using YouTube and YTMP3 to make it seem more epic.
